Taking advantages of leading position and generating industrial and social value in logistics industry

During the stage of commercializing autonomous driving technology, it's still a huge work for a company, even a fleet of companies, to overcome technical difficulties, upgrade manufacturing capacity, improve industry policies and so on. Therefore, it becomes critical to integrate the resources of leading enterprises, build an open platform for innovation and attract more forces to participate in the commercialization of autonomous driving. This is what Inceptio Technology and Auto Innovation Park of Shanghai International Automobile City headed to achieve when they decided to initiate the joint innovation center.
 

 

Warmly responded and embraced by the leading enterprises in the related industries, the initiative welcomed its first 12 members in just a few months. The members include Foton Motor, FAW Jiefang, C&C Trucks, WABCO, Velodyne LiDAR, Navinfo, TrunkTech, G7, and innovation labs, such as Keen Security Lab of Tencent and CyberC3 Intelligent Vehicle Lab of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It's reported that, the center will extend its boundaries and enlarge its fleet of members for accelerating the implication of autonomous driving in business scenarios. On top of that, it will help to generate the substantial business value and social value.

Opening test sample trucks and co-founding a sharing management platform of test cases

"Actions speak louder than words" is the fundamental principle that the joint innovation center set for the future. As one of the two sponsors, Inceptio Technology will open several sample trucks, in which millions of dollars are invested, as a platform for the purpose of testing autonomous driving technologies. This allows the members of the innovation center, coupled with universities, startups and logistics companies to have an access to secondary development, algorithm verification and scenarios experience.
 

Meanwhile, under the guidance of the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Road Test Management Specification (Trial), the joint innovation center will make full use of resources provided by Shanghai International Automobile City and other test sections. Based on Inceptio Technology's sample trucks, it also wants to better integrate the autonomous driving industry by introducing more and more members. The innovation center, embeds the features of the  line-haul logistics in, aims to build a test case management platform characterized by open source and sharing for the whole industry. IT'S just the beginning. The center is inviting more partners to build shoulder to shoulder an R&D platform for autonomous driving, at the hope of creating a R&D test environment for the members and industry.

With the development of domestic autonomous driving technology and intelligent network, both closed and open test areas are flourishing around China. However, until now, there is almost not an operation demonstration section that is commercially viable. There is an urgent need for a real operation scenario with roads, freights and trucks running by. So, the joint innovation center guarantees to invite more social resources in the future. By cooperating seamlessly with local government, road owners and logistics companies, it will take the advantages of the social resource to work for the operation demonstration section and create a service system and related support measures. In short, the innovation center's effort will focus on promoting the realization of China's "Waymo One" and accelerating the commercialization of China's commercial vehicles.
The follow-up plans of the innovation center are to dip its toes into new energy. In the light of having an advantage on trunk logistic scenarios, it can combine with more energy enterprises, road owners and local government to innovate together.
It's reported that, the joint innovation center is composed of the Secretariat, member units and an advisory committee. Inceptio Technology will serve as the Secretariat, responsible for the innovation center's daily operation, as well as organizing and coordinating the communication and sharing among members. Other member units will rotate to host the annual activities of the innovation center for releasing major project progress. The advisory committee will provide the members with guidance and consultation of related technologies, and also insights of the policy and industry technical specifications. In addition to that, the innovation center will hold exchange seminars and innovation competitions related to new policy, new technology, new products and new business, to better promote the information exchange, synergic development and cooperative innovation among the members.
